Storyboard v3

Why I Have Changed The Storyboard:

I have changed the storyboard a third time as I couldn't film the scenes that required contact lenses. Moreover, my target audience commented saying that they didn't understand the narrative and that it didn't make sense. They found that the contact lenses scenes didn't fit in with the narrative and ultimately just confused them. As a result I have decided to replace them with scenes that fit in with the narrative. The narrative now focuses on a normal sixth form student who gets bullied and suffers a mental breakdown from overworking. This is an attempt to bring the issue of mental health in schools to light as it is often ignored.

Updated Storyboard:

1st scene – Cutting on beats in my pitch-black room of different objects, slowly getting towards myself on the computer, distorted angles. Slowly creeping up behind me effect.

2nd scene – Student in room listening to mainstream song, on vevo, close up onto hits, wishing I could sing. Room in pitch black, only light coming off the screen. Layer sequence of famous person over the top, close up of their face layered on top of my face – The famous person layered will have a low opacity on top so that my face is visible.

3rd scene – fear – fear of the dark - achluophobia. Long shot from eye level to show a guy walking towards a crossroads a night. Cut to a POV, first looks down main road pathway, then look right to a dark alley where Tomi appears in dark clothing looking sinister, low angle shot empowers him with aggressive facial expression, cut to a reaction shot of myself looking scared, followed by a medium to long shot of me walking down the main road pathway. Looking scared works with “My names Blurryface and I care what you think” – I will wear Wearing jumper, jeans, and jacket with hood up, don’t want to be noticed or to stand out, connote insecurity. Use high ISO, if doesn’t work use a torch/ flash.

4th scene – Close up of water rippling, leaves blowing then pan the camera to look up to the sun. Fade to black. Medium-close up reveals a match being lit, then light a candle. Blow candle out and record smoke coming off the candle to sync with “Probably only sell one.”

5th Scene - I shall be in my room, sitting at my desk looking at a picture of my “brother” and myself, the camera will be positioned so that it records an over the shoulder shot of me looking at the picture, followed by a close up of the picture itself, this connects to the lyrics “Give it to my brother”. (Extreme close up) Slowly zoom into my face then I close my eyes, fade to white, followed by a flashback of the brother and myself skipping stones across a pond, filmed from a long shot at a low angle, then fade back to white. This sequence links to the lyrics “a stone’s throw from creek we used to roam”. The Camera then zooms out from my face (Extreme close up cuts to a medium-close up recorded from a high angle), I put the picture down, sigh and look sad then cut to an over the should shot of myself browsing on the computer whilst I log into my bank account, followed by a close up of my bank balance on a computer screen, shows no money in my account, cut back to high angle medium-close up position, then my head falls into my hands.

Scene 6: On the 4 beats of the base drum, jump cut to 4 different close ups showing stressful facial expressions of myself, with my head in different positions, moving around sporadically whilst sitting at my desk pulling out hair and screaming etc, camera will be eye-level. Each jump cut will be on beat with the base drum in the song.

7th Scene – “My names Blurryface and I care what you think”, Long shot of myself walking at night filmed from behind me. The camera will be positioned in a bush to connote someone watching and following me. The long shot records me walking for about 2 seconds, then I turn around, then cut to an extreme-close up of my eyes to reveal an uneasy and scared facial expression (Eyes move around quickly and sharply). Cut to long shot camera again to show myself turning back around, cut to a medium shot of myself where the camera will be further down the alley but it will be in front of me to show myself putting my hood up, walking quickly and putting my hands into the jumper pockets – body language connotes fear. Fade to black to end scene.

Record in the dark alley by the school or at a location underneath a streetlight.

8th scene – Close up of a clock showing the time, ticks for 3 seconds, then put clip into reverse and when reversing use black and white filter. Close up of old pictures of myself + shelf of trophies from a long angle. Cut on beat to a close up tracking the fast movements of the drum sticks whilst playing the chorus. Quick cutting to show multiple close ups of the sticks movements hitting the drum, with a few medium shots to show that I am actually playing the drums.

9th scene – Cut to myself lying in bed in my room, the camera will be at a high angle looking down at me filming a medium-close up, whilst I sing the words “We used to play pretend, give each other different names, We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away, Used to dream of outer space but now they're laughing at our face,” then a close up cut away shot will reveal my mum coming into my room and a POV shot will shot her saying “Wake up you need to make money” which will be synced with the song’s lyrics. Then jump cut twice on the two snare drum beats to show myself rolling over in the bed from a high angle medium shot. A close up will reveal me lying on my side and the camera becomes eye level with me whilst I sing the verse. When it gets to “Wake up you need to make money” cut back to a close up POV shot of mum saying those lyrics, then camera tracks my movement as I lean up out of bed, I then look directly into the camera (eye-level close up) and say “yeah” to sync with the song as it talks about finally waking up. Then fade to black.

10th scene – Multiple close ups of the drumsticks whilst I play the drums, ranging from high, low and eye level angles with fast paced cutting on the beat.

11th scene – (Chorus) Cut away shots of sunlight, rivers, playgrounds and swing sets – abandoned, filmed from low angles to empower them, stronger feeling of nostalgia. Cut on beat at the end of the chorus to next scene.

12th scene – Medium shot eye level reveals student studying at desk, cut to a high angle showing him having a mental breakdown quick 1-2 second sequence, cutting back to studying, then back to breakdown, end shot showing he has push papers everywhere books on the floor head on the desk, slow motion as paper falls.
