Plan For Music Video Shoot

Location Ideas:

Location 1. School – Corridors – These will be used to film some transition scenes in order to keep the story flowing throughout the video. These settings create an authentic scene as my plot follows the life of a student and how he descends into madness.

Location 2. Students Room – Used again to create authenticity and allow the audience to create a personal link with the artist as he will have a stereotypical messy teenagers room, thereby creating a connection between the target audience and artist’s as they will find the messy room relatable.

Location 3. Drum studio / Music Studio – This location is being considered as it can fit the drum kit within the room whilst having ample room to accommodate the cameras in their different planned locations. The connotation of the room will enhance my video, as the school setting will look more authentic and professional. Moreover, the mise en scene of the equipment in the room will make the scene look more realistic and will also contribute to the authenticity of the sequence.

Location 4. Pond at Grove Hill – Will be used to show skipping stones scene so the pond is essential to my shoot. This also enhances the realism of the past, displayed in my video.

Location 5. Media studio – This location is being considered, as it could be a good choice to film the dark scenes in my music video. This is because there is ample room to film whilst also having multiple different lights, so using light to create different meanings will be much easier and simpler to do. Furthermore, different backgrounds are available in the studio so my final sequence in my music video can be created easily.

Prop list:

Candle – Risk of burning myself, will wear protective equipment to minimise risk.

Paper aeroplane – Hit someone in the eye, to avoid this risk I will be throwing it outside and make sure no one is in the immediate vicinity of the plane.

Computer

Headphones

Guitar + Drums

Stones for skipping across water

Wardrobe List:

1. School Uniform x3 – Set over 3 Days, 1st day ends when 1st chorus finishes – Portrays descent into Insanity, 1st day wearing light colours/white to represent purity, most likely will be a stereotypical sixth form suit to present the main character to be relatable to my target audience. On the 2nd day, the colours will change to a darker grey colour; connoting that my slow descent into madness is underway. Then finally, on the 3rd day, I will be wearing all black/Dark colours to signify the completion of the descent.

2. Jumper Black t-shirt + Jeans – Stereotypical teenager clothes, again to present him as a relatable character.

3. Pyjamas – used during bed scene to create an authentic look to the video, superheroes on them to symbolise a teenager who is childish and wants to go back to his younger days as a child.

Casting:

1. Myself – A survey revealed that I was the optimal choice for the role as I am a musician so there could be performance aspects in my music video of myself playing the drums. Moreover, I already know all of the lyrics to the song, so in that aspect filming can commence much sooner than planned and will be easier in certain scenes.

2. Mum – Most convenient person to play the role of a parent in my music video, moreover using my actual mother will create an authentic scene between a mother and a son.

3. Joseph (Younger Brother) – He was chosen by my target audience, as he is my closet relation to a younger brother and because he has the closest resemblance to me so an authentic familial connection. Furthermore, feedback from my target audience also indicated that they chose him because he has a genuine interest in acting and wants to pursue a career in acting so this would be a good first stepping stone. Additionally, he will be easily accessible as he is a family member.

4. Extras: Marni and Katie, they were chosen by my target audience as they are attractive and appeal to the voyeuristic male audience (following Laura Mulvey’s Male gaze theory). Moreover, they are popular girls so they will fit into the role of playing popular girls easily and their portrayal of them will be more natural, realistic, and genuine.

Rory and Tomi – These two were chosen by my target audience because they are two dominant males and will therefore play the role of two dominant males naturally and convincingly. Additionally, they are also popular so playing the role of a popular dominant male would be easy whilst looking natural on camera.

Make-up:

Black contacts – Symbolic completed decent into insanity; it denotes the effects of stress and pressure from school and overworking.
