I want to use the camera that achieves the highest quality
so that my music video has a professional finish. In order to choose my camera,
I decided to create a table of all the benefits and negatives of different
camera.
Canon
HG10:
Positives
|
Negatives
|
Easy
to use
|
Poor
quality – cannot capture small details
|
Strap
keeps camera steady whilst filming
|
Changing
focus can be difficult, not as smooth and clean as other cameras
|
Holds
a large amount of footage – Can film a lot of content
|
Quality
decreases as the camera zooms in
|
Can
be attached to a tripod so smooth camera shots can be created
|
Low
quality Audio
|
The
small screen also allows adjustments whilst filming to make sure that the
camera is positioned to film the correct shot
|
The Canon HG10 is the optimal camera to use when testing
some of my scenes from my music video. Therefore I plan to use it to record
some test scenes. This is because it is easy to use and is versatile so can be
used to record in a variety of different ways.
Canon AXH1
Positives
|
Negatives
|
High definition filming
|
Records onto tape – time lag from shifting footage from
tapes onto computer
|
High definition sound
|
Harder to access footage compared to other camera because
of tapes
|
Easy to zoom in and focus on specific objects and
backgrounds
|
Can only record small amounts of footage onto the tape
|
Heavy – Hard to take around when filming
|
This camera’s high definition filming and audio make it a
great choice to use for recording the more technically advanced and create
scenes in my music video.
Canon Powershot S5
Positives
|
Negatives
|
High definition filming
|
Lens cannot be changed
|
Light and easy to take around when filming
|
Can have limited storage depending on memory card
|
High definition audio
|
Cant zoom in
|
Overall, I feel that this camera is not suited for the
production of my music video, as it cannot zoom in. Close ups are a convention
of rock music videos so it would be challenging the norms of a rock music
video. I also plan to feature multiple close ups to reveal the expressions of
the main actor, so this camera will be unsuitable for my production. Following
current convention will make my music video look like a more realistic and
professional product.
Canon EOS 1100D
Positives
|
Negatives
|
High definition filming
|
Is not designed for recording
|
Light and easy to take around when filming
|
Can have limited storage depending on memory card
|
Comes with a variety of lenses that are easy to change
|
|
Easy to zoom in and focus on certain objects and
backgrounds
|
Overall, I believe that this camera is the optimal choice
for the production of the majority of my music video. This is because it can
record in high definition, whilst the choice of lenses allows a wider range of
shots to be available for my music video. Additionally, the lenses will allow
close up shots which will be a prominent feature in my music video. Additionally,
the camera will allow me to take pictures which can be used on my website and
digipak.
Tripod:
The tripod will allow my shots to look smooth and
professional. I plan to use it keep my camera steady which will create smooth
clean footage. The tripod will be extremely useful when creating cross cutting
scenes during the performance part of my music video, as it will allow me to
record from high and low angles easily.
Software:
iMovie:
Photoshop:
I will be using Photoshop when editing pictures that I have
taken for my website and digipak. Photoshop allows me to enhance the quality of
the picture, which in turn makes it look more appealing and professional. I
will be able to darken the pictures, which will connote a sinister tone,
reflecting the dark themes that will be explored in my music video. This
software will allow me to create professional, high quality pictures for my
digipak and magazine.
